UK retailer adopts Voxware voice-enabled warehouse solution

Argos stock-picking accuracy rose to 99.8%, an 87% decline in errors

Voxware, Inc. (OTC: VOXW), a supplier of voice-based solutions that allow warehouse workers to pick merchandise more effectively and accurately, announced that Argos, a leading general merchandise retailer in the UK, has selected Voxwares VoiceLogistics for its warehouses, and is nearing the completion of its first phase deployment involving approximately 200 workers at two sites. The first rollout site quickly surpassed other sites in pick rates. By October 2005, Argos plans to roll out Voxware’s solution across the network.

Eddie Mcgilveray, the Warehouse Management System Project Manager at Argos, said,Weve achieved a greater than 99.8% accuracy rate in the distribution centers (DCs) that have deployed Voxwares VoiceLogistics, as compared to 98.5% for non-voice DCs. Weve also seen a productivity increase in picking through the changes in process that voice allows, which is impressive, considering that labor standards were already in place. In addition, our training time has decreased significantly as a result of implementing voice.”

The Voxware system uses wearable computing devices with voice control technology developed by Voxware. “We intend to maximize the use of voice throughout the distribution center,” added Mcgilveray. “As we deploy more applications, we increase the return on our investment. Thus, we fully intend to make use of idle [wearable computer] units with other applications during off-peak times. ”
