Bill Meisel

Backed by more than two decades of experience in advanced speech technology and markets, William Meisel, Ph.D., president of TMA Associates, has been an independent consultant since 1991. Bill specializes in analyzing commercial developments that are enabled by advanced speech technology. He is one of the speech industry’s best-known independent analysts and consultants.

He is the publisher and editor of Speech Strategy News, which combines his previous Speech Recognition Update and Telephone Strategy News newsletters. He is the author of influential market studies, including an influential Telephony Voice User Interface study. He is the creator and co-organizer (with AVIOS) of the Voice Search Conference and has planned the program for SpeechTEK West.

Meisel began his career as a university professor and wrote the first textbook on computer pattern recognition. He ran the computer science division of an engineering company for ten years before founding a speech recognition company and leading it for another decade. Meisel obtained his B.S. degree in Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California.
